Tournai, Belgium

Due to the sheer scale of the Tournai project in Belgium, taking the client’s designs through to the manufacturing stage was a real challenge. The final product was comprised of differing lengths of picnic table with integral seating, each curved at different radii. Each section was broken down into more manageable modules which could then be bolted together. They were constructed using large curved FSC® Iroko slats mounted onto a galvanised steel channel frame. Every module and slat was different utilising separate laser cut templates for each slat. Accuracy and attention to detail were paramount at every stage. A method of removable base fixing to ensure that the finished piece could be fastened to the cobbled surface of the square was developed to compliment the design.
