The Camden bench is one of a family of benches designed for Camden Borough Council. The bench is designed with contemporary street seating needs in mind including resisting criminal and anti-social behaviour:
• Deters rough sleeping – ridged top and curved surfaces make it difficult to lie on
• Deters drug dealing – bench has no cracks, slots or gaps in which to hide such materials
• Deters bag theft – recesses along sides of bench allow people to store bags behind their legs
• Reduces littering - bench has no flat surfaces, cracks, slots or gaps. Dirt and water flow off
• Easy to relocate (for example moving it away from a problem area) - as it can sit on the footway and does not have to be secured to a purpose built foundation
The bench is made from exposed aggregate concrete and comes in a variety of available finishes.
