Timber Purchasing Policy
All tropical Hardwoods bought for Factory Furniture come from FSC certified forests and are covered by a valid chain of custody certificate.
Factory Furniture’s tropical hardwoods have been sourced from FSC stocks since 1998. In 2003, the company became an FSC certified supplier with FSC Supplier No: CU-COC-806405. Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. FSC certification ensures that the forest or origin has been independently inspected and evaluated according to strict environmental, social and economic principles and criteria as agreed by the Forest Stewardship Council A.C’.
Forest management can be environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial, but it can also be environmentally and socially damaging. This policy recognises the responsibility of Factory Furniture as a consumer of forest products to ensure that we have a neutral or positive effect on the worlds’ forests.

Waste Management
Factory Furniture recognises the importance of managing and minimizing waste.
This ethos begins with the ordering process, by ordering sizes with a minimum of waste followed through to the workshop by carefully selecting the most appropriate pieces for the product.
All solid wood waste produced by Factory Furniture is sold locally to provide carbon neutral solid fuel for domestic use. Particle or dust waste is formed into biomass briquettes for use as heating fuel. Compostable materials are recycled at local green waste facilities.
Factory furniture uses a minimum of plastic based packaging preferring to use cardboard made from 100% post consumer waste. Metal waste is a precious resource, which is also recycled locally.
